Am so sorry to hear the developer passed away. Have been using ThumbsPlus v7 for YEARS. Bought the upgrades, almost never use them due to loss of key functions, but I wanted to support the software and developer, who was always prompt to respond to emails, although utterly failed to address the avalanche of software issues that occurred in the 'upgrades' and 'updates'. I will continue to use it.
JK, It's also sad that he didn't think the software was worth preserving for the future. All the source code was kept on a set of servers which were hacked and ruined shortly after he died, so it is all gone forever. He never bothered telling anyone if, how, or where he kept any backups. Even worse for his family is that since they can no longer sell or improve the program, they are left without any form of income and facing homelessness now.
Thumbsplus no longer works. The owner of Cerious software died and now their servers have been shut down. Now when you try to run the program is stays stuck on "checking servers for updates" forever.
pete, itt will eventually open if you wait long enough. Once it opens, you need to turn off checking updates so it stops trying to connect with the server. When you click the help icon there is a setting called "Program Updates" for how often you want it to check for updates. Open that and then select NEVER to avoid delay next time you open
bob, I got it to open, kept trying and then eventually went to Users/myname/roaming/thumbs.exe, not sure if I opend from the shortcut or from the roaming file but I eventually got it to open. Once you do, go to the HELP icon, select PROGRAM UPDATE and set that to never so it does not try going to the server any longer.
Have used this program for years alongside Picasa and GIMP with no problems at all.
I see ThumbsPlus and Picasa as complementary. Picasa has some indexing tricks e.g. face matching, that ThumbsPlus does not but overall can't come near ThumbsPlus.
It's a very good, stable piece of software.
